SDC2 Deployment
SDC2 is so
flexible and feature rich, the deployment possibilities are endless. SDC2
fits a single doctor practice as much as it fits a multiple doctor practice.
How you choose to deploy SDC2 is totally up to you. The overall configuration
requires several different steps.
Drug Analysis
Most commonly, a medical director, practice owner, or office manager will do
a drug sales analysis showing the most common used drugs in the practice.
Once this is done, organize the drugs into one of five SDC2 categories in
order of priority. Next, determine the drug dosage. Then any special
instructions for the use of the drug. You have just established your standard.
A worksheet is available to assist you in drug configuration.
SDC2 comes with a sample database that shows many different ways to configure
the database. The sample database will most likely have some of your top 10
drugs for each category.
Secure vs. Open
The secure version of SDC2 contains the entire program, but, does not allow
editing of the database. This allows complete control over the data. The
secure version allows corporate medical directors to distribute a corporate
wide standard of drug dosing. In a single doctor practice, it allows the
doctor to establish a standard and ensure the staff will dose accordingly.
The secure version is available by special order only, and is tailored to
your deployment method. The use of the Palm Emulator is required for secure
deployment.
Beyond SDC2
It is possible to use a Palm device to organize just about any treatment room
out there. Use the DateBook to schedule blood glucose curves, surgery time,
lunch schedules, equipment maintenance, and other specialized treatments. Use
Address to house all of your business contacts. A good rule of thumb, if
someone hands you a business card, enter all information in Address. Use Memo
Pad instead of taped notes all about the cupboards. In a more sophisticated
configuration, email is available. SDC2 is meant to compliment these other
tools found on Palm Pilots, therefore exploiting the devices total
capability. This is where the value of the investment becomes most evident.

SDC2
Technical Information
Veterinary
medical standards world wide are vastly different. Therefore, an operation
standard for SDC2 that would meet the world wide requirement had to be
chosen. The choice for weights and measures is the metric standard. In all
modern drug reference, drugs are dosed according to this standard. At no time
should the use of SDC2 replace sound medical judgment for drug dosing and
administration. Modification of SDC2 to fit your exact requirements should
always be taken into consideration.
Any of the automatic calculators such as the Fluids Calculator and Database
Calculator, perform calculations using the metric standard. Weights entered
in American Pounds, are converted to Kilograms prior to running the
calculations. From an operations stand point. The user need not worry about
how they enter the weight. SDC2 will maintain it's metric standard. The
database is therefore hard coded to the metric standard.
Whenever an automatic calculation requires the use of a dosage range, the
center of the range will be used. For example, the Fluid maintenance
calculation is "50 x weight in kg / 24". Based on daily maintenance
range of 40 - 60 mL/kg/24 hours. You can have these automatic calculations
modified to fit your exact need.
SDC2 calculates price cost according to price per milliliter, or, price per
tablet. The pricing calculations multiply the price per unit entered in the
database, to the number of units calculated. The smaller the dosage in
milliliters, the smaller the price will be. The smaller number of tablets
calculated, the smaller the price. These calculations are designed for
internal use. It allows you to monitor your profit margin for the drugs being
used. It also assists in the design of custom tailored estimates for specific
treatments on a case by case basis. It is possible, but not recommended, to
calculate a client billable price.
The use of
the Palm Emulator for desktop operations is highly recommended. This provides
the easiest way to create and edit the database with SDC2. This option also
allows you to have SDC2 running on any computers desktop over your network.
Palm Emulator is available for the Apple Macintosh, Windows, and Linux
platforms.
